Accessibility statement for the University of York jobs portal

The University of York is committed to making its websites accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies  (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

This accessibility statement applies to the subdomain jobs.york.ac.uk

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliance(s) listed below.

Non accessible content

Text reflow

At 400% zoom the user has to scroll both vertically and horizontally to view the full page content.

Content that cannot be enlarged without requiring horizontal scrolling is not compliant with WCAG guideline 1.4.10.

We are working to correct this issue.

Page titles in PDFs

PDF documents should have titles that describe the topic or purpose of the page. The page title for job description documents have the title “downloaded_document”.

Documents that do not have a title are not compliant with WCAG guideline 2.4.2.

We are reliant on the third-party supplier of our job application portal to resolve this, and we are working with them to correct this issue.

Non-text content in PDFs

In PDF documents you must ensure that images are tagged correctly with alternative text. The background image on page 1 of the job description document does not have alternate text.

Documents that do not have alternative text for  images are not compliant with WCAG guideline 1.1.1.

The template documents used to generate the job description have been corrected to provide alternative text for the background image on page 1.  However, job description PDFs currently available (as of 14 August 2024) will have been created from the template documents before the changes were applied.  The number of job description PDFs in the system that have alternate text for the background image will increase over time as the updated templates are used for creating job descriptions.

Text contrast in PDFs

Poor colour contrast makes it difficult for someone with sight loss to see the content properly. The blue headings in the job description PDF document, such as 'Main purpose of the role' and 'Person specification', do not have sufficient colour contrast.

Text that does not have sufficient colour contrast is not compliant with WCAG guideline 1.4.3.

The template documents used to generate the job description have been corrected to provide sufficient colour contrast in the headings.  However, job description PDFs currently available (as of 14 August 2024) will have been created from the template documents before the changes were applied.  The number of job description PDFs in the system that have sufficient colour contrast in the headings will increase over time as the updated templates are used for creating job descriptions.
