Role Description

Marketing, Recruitment, Admissions and Outreach (MRAO)

This role is based in Marketing, Recruitment, Admissions and Outreach (MRAO) which makes up part of the External Relations Directorate. 

The Student Recruitment team within MRAO are tasked with developing strategies that help shape the University’s future student populations by attracting and retaining the best students, regardless of their backgrounds.

In particular, this post holder will work within our Student Recruitment team to support the delivery of key undergraduate recruitment events on-campus and online, as well as represent the University at school/college visits and events. For the Student Recruitment team as we return to in-person delivery this is a time to develop our work with prospective students and their supporters, so is an exciting time to join the team.

We are currently working in a hybrid way, with a blend of working from home, on campus and at events off-campus.  

Role

This role provides a recent University of York graduate with an opportunity to gain significant experience working in a role that supports young people to realise their aspirations.  The post holder will become skilled in event management, communication and customer service. 

The post holder will focus on supporting the delivery of undergraduate recruitment activities working with students and their supporters.  This maybe, for example at online events or external visits to schools/colleges where you might give a presentation about the University of York specifically or higher education generally, or talk to students and their supporters at an in-person career fair about courses and facilities at the University.

You will deliver a large number of presentations, activities and events engaging with a range of audiences. 

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

(Role holders will be required to undertake some or all of the duties below)

Under the supervision of senior staff and Student Recruitment Officers, role holders will be required to undertake some or all of the duties below:

  1. To provide specific support for the University’s undergraduate open days and visit days, and other recruitment events.  These activities could be in person, or online.
  2. To support creative and innovative digital solutions that will enable online programme delivery, virtual events and online learning resources that add value to our face to face provision.
  3. To deliver activities and presentations, from the perspective of a recent graduate, on a variety of topics including student life; applying to higher education; student finance; the experience of being a University of York student; choosing a university course. 
  4. To plan, organise and take part in the delivery and evaluation of the University’s programme of outside visits.  Specifically:
  • to represent the University of York at higher education exhibitions, schools, colleges and other external events
  • to provide specialist information and advice to prospective students, their families and teachers at higher education events 
  • to speak with knowledge on behalf of the University of York to a variety of external audiences on a range of topics. These may include university choices, the application process, student money matters, unique selling points of the University of York and its academic departments, pastoral care and student support matters
  • to make the necessary preparation and appropriate follow-up to visits and/or reports.

Condition of Employment

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. Consequently, all applicants will be asked to declare both unspent and spent convictions on their application form. 

Appointment of the successful candidate will be conditional on a Disclosure and Barring Service check.
