Department

The York Trials Unit (YTU) is a UKCRC registered clinical trials unit and its success has led to the need to expand the data management team. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Assistant Data Manager to work alongside the team responsible for clinical trials data management.

Applications are welcomed from candidates with a first or higher degree in a computer-related discipline or with substantial relevant experience at an equivalent level.

The successful applicant will be expected to assist the data management team predominantly in the validation and verification side of data management whilst being flexible to take on additional data management tasks when required. Attention to detail being a key factor in this role.

Training, where necessary, will be provided for this challenging, yet rewarding, role.

We are looking for one full-time post and the position is available immediately for a fixed term period of 24 months.

Role

The main purpose of this role is to assist the data management team predominantly in the validation and verification side of clinical trials’ data management but also be willing to undertake any aspect of data management when required to do so.

The main duties and responsibilities are:

  • Preparing data validation plans and other data management associated documentation
  • Setting up SQL tables in our data systems to hold data from CRFs.
  • Downloading data from data systems
  • Building and implementing validation and verification procedures currently written in SQL
  • Working on a variety of trials’ data using existing validation code and creating new code to identify data anomalies.
  • Liaising with trial coordinators to rectify data anomalies
  • Preparing interim and final data for statistical analysis
  • Keeping accurate audit trails
  • Work closely with data management team members to ensure a high quality programme of work

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • First degree in a computer related discipline or, in exceptional circumstances, substantial relevant experience at an equivalent level
  • Detailed knowledge of Microsoft Office/SQL server software
  • Knowledge of clinical data management
  • Data integrity
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of people
  • Produce work of a high standard with attention to detail and to specific deadlines
  • Ability to organise and a methodical approach to tasks
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and engage in continued professional development
  • Experience of working with complex data systems, data validation, data cleaning and downloading data sets for statistical analysis
