Role Description

Pensions Team Leader (Fixed Term – 18 Months)

University of York

This interim appointment will provide cover for aspects of the University’s Pension’s Managers role during the implementation of our new pensions system. Working under the guidance of the Pension’s Manager, you will oversee a small, highly motivated team of friendly pensions colleagues.

You will manage the team on a day-to-day basis, providing support, advise and guidance on our pensions. You will also be responsible for drafting university wide communications on our schemes.

Main responsibilities

  • Work with pension providers (USS and NHS) to ensure an effective and efficient service for members
  • Manage the third-party supplier of DC auto-enrolment scheme
  • Develop information resources including web-based materials
  • Ensure that the University’s T&C’s of Employment are compliant with pensions legislation
  • Arrange, author and deliver presentations at pensions briefing and retirement seminars
  • Liaise closely with senior colleagues in HR and wider university on pension matters

Key requirements

  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent) and APMI, QPA or IPP qualified (or equivalent)
  • Good technical knowledge of pension scheme legislation
  • Knowledge and experience of DB schemes
  • Proven ability to inspire and direct the work of a team
  • Ability to understand information and communicate conclusions persuasively
  • High level of numeracy and Reasoning skills
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
