Role Description

Department

The Department of Archaeology is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and proactive Administrator to join the department’s Professional Services Support Team, who collectively provide a high-quality administrative support service, and student and staff experience, to support departmental education and research activities and ambitions led by the Department Manager.

The post is based at The King’s Manor (with occasional travel to the Heslington Campus as required). At present, the post requires a combination of working on campus and working from home, due to current working requirements set out by the university and the Government in response to COVID-19. As the situation continues to develop and guidance changes, flexibility will be required in respect of post location.

Role

To carry out a range of processes to help the department deliver our programmes and support our students. To assist with the delivery of all aspects of the student journey by supporting academic staff and students through providing good customer service, information and advice, and continuously improving our administrative processes.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

Qualifications

  • A general education to include 5 GCSE passes at Grade C or above (including Maths and English), or an equivalent educational qualification, or relevant experience
  • Qualified to A Level or equivalent educational qualification, or relevant experience

Knowledge and experience

  • Experience of working in a varied administrative role effectively balancing competing priorities
  • Experience in the use of relevant IT applications and/or systems including MS Office and/or Google applications
  • Experience of providing an excellent standard of customer service to a range of stakeholders
  • Experience of organising meetings, committees, events, workshops and conferences
  • Knowledge of Virtual Learning Environments (i.e. Blackboard), content management software  for updating websites and student records databases
  • Experience of reviewing, developing and enhancing administrative systems and processes

Skills, abilities and competencies

  • Ability to analyse, interpret and summarise numerical and written information for use in a  variety of ways
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, including face to face, telephone and  written communication skills
  • Planning and organisational skills, e.g. meetings and events
  • A proactive approach and the ability to apply problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to provide accurate, concise summaries and notes
  • Able to work flexibly and accurately, under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Track-record of ability to work within regulatory and policy frameworks
