Role Description


The Department of Environment & Geography is embarking on an ambitious project to define its strategy for the next ten years and beyond. The department is a leading centre for teaching and research on the world’s environmental issues and hopes it will have a major part to play in finding sustainable solutions to these challenges.

The PA/Administrator will support the Head of Department (HoD) and the Leadership Team (EGLT) by proactively and reactively taking control of administrative processes. You will also help to ensure that the Department meets its compliance obligations and project an excellent outwards impression of the Department.

The main purpose of the role is to:

  • Save time & effort for the HoD and EGLT by proactively & reactively taking control of administrative processes (and continuously improving them)
  • Provide excellent customer service to all stakeholders, answering queries and resolving problems regarding a range of University processes and systems
  • Undertake a range of administrative duties, making certain that controls are in place to ensure accuracy and timeliness

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • A general education to include 5 GCSE passes at Grade C or above (including Maths and English), or an equivalent educational qualification, or relevant experienceThorough knowledge of administrative procedures and processes used in a busy office within a large complex organisation
  • Experience in the use of relevant IT applications and/or systems including MS Office and/or Google applicationsCompetent in diary management, with the ability to plan and organise meetings, small scale events, workshops and conferences
  • Experience of providing an excellent standard of customer service to a range of stakeholders
  • Highly organised and able to work flexibly, under pressure and to tight deadlines
