Role Description

The Department of Chemistry seeks applications for a Director of the Green Chemistry Centre of Excellence (GCCE) and Professor in Sustainable Chemistry from outstanding individuals with demonstrated research excellence in green or sustainable chemistry. The GCCE has strengths in: biobased materials and renewable resources; sustainable solvents; carbon dioxide utilisation; clean synthesis and platform molecules; and microwave processing.

The Department of Chemistry is one of the largest and most successful academic departments at York, placed in the top ten UK for Research Power by the 2014 Research Excellence Framework exercise (REF). The Role
You will be a dynamic research leader with a proven track record and will work alongside colleagues in the Department in helping York further enhance its international reputation, through research and publication, teaching, networking and consultancy. You will be expected to direct the GCCE, play a leading role within the research theme of Green and Sustainable Chemistry and contribute to the teaching of these subjects at York.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • A PhD in Chemistry or a related area
  • An internationally recognised research profile in green or sustainable chemistry
  • The ability to lead, manage and attract funds for internationally leading research from a range of funding sources including industry.
  • The ability to manage, nurture and collaborate with staff and students at all levels
  • Demonstrable commitment to the delivery of teaching excellence
  • Commitment to the advancement and strategic development of the Department of Chemistry
