An opportunity has arisen in the Department of Chemistry to provide technical and specialist support to research groups within the Organic Chemistry section. The post holder will be expected to work under the direction of academics and senior technical staff to ensure safe and efficient running of several research laboratories.
Knowledge of general laboratory procedures, technical cover in the areas of IT and instrumentation management, experience of practical synthetic organic chemistry, and of working in a scientific environment are essential for the post, although specific training will be provided.

As a signatory of the Science Council’s Technician Commitment, The University of York strongly supports technical career development, and part of this programme is the drive to recruit new talent into the technical profession in higher education.
This role will be to provide technical and scientific support to a number of chemistry laboratories, assisting with and taking day-to-day responsibility for the organisation, housekeeping and operational management of the laboratories, equipment and instrumentation and providing practical synthetic and analytical support to research projects. This will require the candidate to work collaboratively with the technical team, academics, and research staff to provide general and flexible support; particularly in the area of synthetic organic chemistry. Knowledge of laboratory operations, health and safety processes, and synthetic organic and analytical chemistry techniques are essential to the role.
