Role Description


The Department for Education funded National Centre for Excellence for Language Pedagogy (NCELP) seeks to appoint an energetic and creative Resource Developer Assistant. The person appointed will make an important contribution to the Centre’s work and will support the team of Resource Developers in the production of research-informed teaching and testing materials that will be made freely and openly available on the NCELP Resource Portal. The post-holder will be expected to assist team members with resource development, including the production of OASIS accessible summaries of published research. They will also provide support to the wider NCELP team and users of the resources.

The main aims of NCELP are to develop and disseminate research-informed pedagogic knowledge, training, and resources, with a view to increasing teachers’ capacity to deliver the recommendations of the Review of MFL Pedagogy published by the Teaching School's Council in 2016. Applicants are strongly advised to be familiar with aspects of this report relating to classroom pedagogy, available here. NCELP currently supports Specialist Teachers in nine Lead Schools each working with their local Hub schools (45 schools in total) and their extended networks (an additional 90 schools).


The person appointed will make an important contribution to the Centre’s work, assisting with the production of research-informed curriculum materials, which will be freely and openly available on the NCELP resource database (the Resource Portal). Key responsibilities will be to assist in the production of resources that draw on international peer-reviewed research and that fully align with and enrich the materials currently held on the Resource Portal. The post-holder(s) will provide support to the NCELP team and users of the resources.

The post is part-time up to 0.5 FTE, with a minimum of 0.4 FTE. The post is for 16 months from 19th July 2021 to 2nd December 2022.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications needed

  • We welcome applications from candidates with (or predicted) a good honours degree in French, with at least A level in a second language (French, German or Spanish).
  • The post would be ideal for a final year undergraduate or a postgraduate looking for part-time work, ideally with some experience of teaching or involvement in languages education.
  • Secure IT skills are essential, especially with PowerPoint. The willingness to develop further technical and digital literacy is also essential, as the work will involve editing sound and image files, compiling and editing word and grammar lists in Excel, and working with educational software such as Quizlet.
  • Good basic administrative skills will also be required.
