Role Description

Department

The Office of Philanthropic Partnerships and Alumni (OPPA) is seeking a highly motivated Philanthropy Officer responsible for gifts in Wills, in the Individual Philanthropy Team.

OPPA works with an international community of donors, and our global alumni community of over 140,000 graduates of the University of York, and is responsible for:

Philanthropic partnerships - providing support to students, our academic community and priority programmes at York via gifts (including legacies), grants and donations.

York Unlimited - our ambitious fundraising and volunteering campaign.

York Global Alumni Association - the official alumni community for the University of York.

Role

Are you a great relationship builder with excellent communication skills, passion, commitment and the desire to make a real difference?  If so, the Office of Philanthropic Partnerships and Alumni would love to hear from you.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to develop the University’s fundraising through gifts in Wills (legacies or planned giving).   You will be responsible for increasing the number of gifts in Wills pledged to the University, through sharing inspirational stories and utilising data insight to promote gifts in Wills to a variety of different audiences - York graduates, retired and current staff, donors and supporters.  You will manage the administration of gifts in Wills, working with solicitors, executors and families to ensure legacy gifts are used in accordance with donor wishes.

In this varied role you will work closely with donors, their families, and a broad range of colleagues at the University including academics, finance and legal services, as well as senior leaders and volunteers.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications needed

  • You’ll need to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, working with sensitivity and discretion and be able to articulate the transformational impact a legacy gift can have at the University.
  • You will have experience in developing and maintaining relationships, events management, and a proven track record in fundraising, or in marketing and sales and looking to develop a career in fundraising.

Interview date:  13 July 2021

For informal enquiries: Sarah Disney, Head of Individual Philanthropy, at sarah.disney@york.ac.uk
