Role Description

The Communications team is based in the External Relations directorate at the University of York. Our mission is to advance institutional profile and reputation, and help build a strong University community, who feel informed, supported and connected. We do this through digital communications, media relations, research communications, events and public engagement.

A key part of our work is maintaining and strengthening the University’s brand through strategic advice, content support, provision of creative services, management of core digital platforms, and user experience design and research.

The Social Media Producer is responsible for ongoing management and growth of the University's main social media presence across platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and LinkedIn. This includes writing, designing, producing, editing, collaborating on and distributing engaging social media content, including visual and audio content.

With the ability to keep a cool head in a crisis, you’ll know when to respond to or escalate any sensitive and potentially damaging social media issues to help protect the reputation of the University. You’ll also produce best practice guidance, generate creative and innovative ideas, monitor engagement across our channels and ensure that we offer excellent customer service.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications needed

  • Undergraduate degree or relevant professional experience
  • Understanding of target audiences’ motivations and needs
  • Knowledge of digital technologies and social media and their application in communication and marketing
  • Experience generating high quality, informative and compelling social media content, in different formats optimised for the relevant platform
  • Experience of developing content strategies for social media
  • Experience of measuring social performance (including engagement) and using it to inform future plans
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and a diverse external audience

Interview date: 14 July 2021
