Department

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated research fellow with experience in qualitative or mixed methods research to contribute to the multi-disciplinary team in the Martin House Research Centre (www.york.ac.uk/mhrc).

Role

You will be a member of the Martin House Research Centre working under the direction of Professor Lorna Fraser at the University of York. This Centre is based in the Department of Health Sciences at the University of York and is a collaboration with the Social Policy Research Unit at the University of York (www.york.ac.uk/spru), the University of Leeds and Martin House Children’s Hospice (www.martinhouse.org.uk). The Centre’s aim is to undertake high quality research that will help to ensure that all children with life-limiting conditions and their families receive equitable, high quality care.

The role will involve the following responsibilities across two NIHR funded studies: developing review question (s) and protocols, primary qualitative data collection, data analyses and report writing. You would also have the opportunity to contribute to the growing number of other studies in the Centre depending on your skills and methodological expertise and will be encouraged to apply for further funding including personal fellowships.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

You should have:

  •  A PhD in a relevant topic area and research experience in an area that will complement and enhance the department’s research strategy.
  • Knowledge in a range of research techniques and methodologies including qualitative research methods.
  • Ability to lead a small research project and develop research objectives, projects and proposals and to extend, transform and apply knowledge acquired from scholarship to research and appropriate external activities
  • Experience of undertaking qualitative research in sensitive topic areas .
  • Experience of successful management of research projects and evidence of dissemination of scholarly work.
  • Competency to make presentations at internationally recognised conferences or exhibit work in other appropriate events

Condition of Employment

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. Consequently, all applicants will be asked to declare both unspent and spent convictions on their application form.
