A joint team from the Departments of Electronic Engineering and Physics, are currently developing research activities on free-space quantum communications systems, which have so far included funded feasibility studies and phased experimental demonstrations.
The research associate will work closely with specialists from both departments, as well as the industrial partners involved in the project. The main purpose of this role is to support the design, development and test of modular communications system that will deliver CV-QKD from High Altitude Platforms.
You should hold a PhD or equivalent level of experience in Electronic Engineering/Physics and have knowledge of free space optical or classical communications. The role requires knowledge of and proven skills in software/hardware development in industrial or academic environments. The project requires an attention to detail and commitment to quality. You should have an appreciation of, and respect for, appropriate confidentiality of project information, and interest in, and enthusiasm for, the wider fields in which the project is focused. You should have experience in working as part of a team, as well as independently under own initiative and have good oral and written communication skills. A willingness to travel to support the project is desirable.
Salary: Grade 6.1
Contract:12 months fixed term, 37 hours per week
