Role Description

The Department of Biology is looking to appoint an Administrator as part of the Departmental Management Team (DMT) Hub. The DMT Hub is a professional first point of contact providing administrative support to members of the DMT and colleagues from the wider Department.

If you are seeking a varied administration role then this role may be for you.  The range of work undertaken by the DMT Hub includes:

  • Human Resource administration e.g. recruitment, contract changes, casual workers, absence monitoring, training, reward, leavers.
  • Administrative support to DMT members and senior academic staff members 
  • Support to alumni and PR events for the Department (that do not fall within student and academic services)
  • Office duties (such as, but not limited to, organising travel, accommodation, stationery ordering, photocopier maintenance, catering, recycling)
  • Provide cover for other areas if there is a staffing shortfall (e.g. student support, infrastructure, research groups)
  • Administration of departmental committees
  • Research seminar administration 

You will be professional and highly organised, with experience of working as an administrator in a large organisation, be competent with busy diary management and be willing to support the other DMT Hub members and other areas of the Department.  You will be happy to work flexibly in order to be part of an inclusive and friendly team.  You will be handling a large volume of highly sensitive information, so knowledge of the Data Protection Act and experience of working with confidential information/data is essential.

The role is fixed term until 30 November 2021 and salary will be in the range £21,814 – 25,217 a year (reduced pro rata for part time working). The post is part-time (22.20 hours a week) Wednesday to Friday (this is negotiable) and flexi-time is in operation in the Department.
