The Department for Education funded National Centre for Excellence for Language Pedagogy (NCELP) seeks to appoint a knowledgeable and careful Resource Developer to create research-informed classroom materials and tests for learners of French, German or Spanish in secondary schools. The successful candidate will join a team of researchers, subject specialists, and teachers dedicated to ensuring that language pedagogy and curriculum content are research-informed.
The main aims of NCELP are to develop and disseminate research-informed pedagogic knowledge, training, and resources, with a view to increasing teachers’ capacity to deliver the recommendations of the Review of MFL Pedagogy published by the Teaching School's Council in 2016. Applicants are strongly advised to be familiar with this report, available here. NCELP currently supports Specialist Teachers in nine Lead Schools each working with their local Hub schools (45 schools in total) and their extended networks (an additional 90 schools).
The Resource Developer(s) will make a major contribution to the Centre’s work, producing research-informed teaching and testing materials that will be made freely and openly available on the NCELP resource database (the Resource Portal). Key responsibilities will be to create resources that draw on international peer-reviewed research and that fully align with and enrich the materials currently held on the Resource Portal. The post-holder(s) will ensure that materials are classroom-ready. They will also draw on and extend the content and use of the OASIS and IRIS resources.
The post (or posts) is/are available up to full time, and a combination of part-time posts (with a minimum of 0.4 FTE up to full time) will be considered, depending on compatibility with the Centre’s needs and other candidates. The post (or posts) is/are available for one year, and, pending extension funding from the DfE, up to a further three years.
We welcome applications from candidates with a good honours degree in one or more of French, German or Spanish, with at least an A level in a second language (French, German or Spanish).
Candidates will have a suitable teaching (e.g. PGCE) or post-graduate research qualification (e.g., Masters or PhD or equivalent, in linguistics, languages, or applied (psycho) linguistics).
The post would suit an innovative linguist, with experience of teaching and/or research into pedagogy, and a flair for resource and/or test/stimuli creation.
An understanding of research-informed pedagogy and curriculum design is essential, as are secure IT skills, especially with powerpoint, and the willingness to develop further technical and digital literacy, as required.
This is a fixed term contract for 12 months.
