University of York Management School

We are seeking to recruit a Careers and Employability Adviser based within the York Management School to lead on the design and delivery of careers and employability initiatives for our PG & in time EMBA students. 

Our dedicated Careers and Employability Team offers a range of support for students offering a placement year, internships, work experience, workshops, coaching and one-to-one support to help gain the skills and knowledge to achieve their career goals. Results from Destination of Leavers from Higher Education Survey from 2016/2017 shows that 95.6% of TYMS graduates were employed or in further study six months after graduation (HESA, 2017).  

This is an exciting time to join the School as we continue our growth, move into our new building in the heart of the Campus and continue with our ambitious aspirations.   We are in the UK top 10, 10th equal for business and management studies, and 7th for accounting and finance (The Times Good University Guide, 2020)

Reporting directly to the Student Services Manager, you will work in collaboration with the central Careers Service at University level for professional guidance and support from senior careers staff and the existing in house team.

This exciting new role has been created to expand and enhance our current careers and employability support provided to postgraduate students within The York Management School, primarily MSc with plans for future exec programmes. 

Role

To design and deliver a creative and engaging range of professional career guidance activities; developing on-line resources and tools as well as offering one-to-one guidance and group work to a diverse range of  postgraduate students.

Engage proactively with students, academic and professional support colleagues within the School and wider University, as well as with external partners.

Bring your professional careers expertise to existing professional support functions in business engagement, proactively working towards a co-ordinated portfolio of activity.  You will work in collaboration with the School’s Careers Liaison Officer, Director of PGT, Student Services Manager and the existing School’s Careers, Employability & Placements team

You will be an outstanding communicator, with a passion for continuous improvement to services and for excellence in customer service. Your IT skills will be of a high level including the ability to communicate appropriately through social media.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent with a Postgraduate diploma qualification in Careers Guidance or equivalent training
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of the student/graduate labour markets.
  • Sound knowledge of the HE sector including the careers and employability agenda
  • Ability to design and deliver high-quality professional and specialist careers education and group work
  • Experience of working as a Careers Guidance Practitioner, including experience of graduate recruitment and/or employment services
  • Experience of staff management and/or supervision
