Department

The Department of Electronic Engineering is looking to appoint a full time Laboratory Technician to work within the Electronic Engineering technical team, providing technical engineering support across the Department’s varied teaching and research laboratories.

Role

The role will report to the Technical Laboratories Manager and will cover duties both in our main departmental laboratories and the robotics laboratories. You will have previous experience of working in a technical support role and as part of a team. Accuracy and attention to detail is essential, as are excellent oral and written communication and good interpersonal skills.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • You should have an HNC or equivalent in Electronic Engineering or a related subject, an excellent understanding of electronic components and technologies, test and measurement equipment, as well as knowledge of software development using programming languages such as C, C++, Java and Python.
  • You will have excellent IT skills and a good knowledge of robotic systems (hardware and software) and in addition to electro-mechanical skills, you should have a good working knowledge of the safe use of standard laboratory equipment and safety regulations, and an ability to repair and maintain standard laboratory equipment. 
  • Salary will be within the range £25,941 to £31,866 per annum, on grade 5 of the University’s salary scales.
  • The post is full-time and the hours of work are 37 per week. The post is available for a period of three years.
