Role Description

These two senior management opportunities are high-profile roles which require the management of complex activities and relationships with key stakeholder groups. We are seeking to appoint two roles;  Operations Manager (Professional Services) who will support the University Professional support Departments and a Faculty Operations Manager for the Faculty of the Social Sciences.

The Role
You will manage and support teams through change, working to service multiple, sometimes competing, agendas. The role requires excellent negotiation, communication and influencing skills, together with the ability to deal with sensitive issues, balancing conflicting demands and working to tight deadlines. You will proactively seek opportunities for efficiency and effectiveness and increase the value-for-money of services. Improving the coordination of activities within the Faculty/Professional Support directorates. 

The Social Sciences Faculty comprises nine departments with a population of circa 6200 students. The total faculty income per annum is £90 million, which  includes £16 million of research income. The Faculty employs circa 600 academic staff and 130 professional services staff.

Professional Support has seven Directorates: Corporate and Information Services, Commercial Services, Estates and Campus Services, External Relations, Human Resources, Research and Enterprise and Student and Academic Services. In total, Professional Services employs circa 2000 staff and has a net budget of circa £89 million/annum.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications required

  • Educated to degree level or above 
  • An understanding of the core academic purposes of the University
  • Knowledge of best practice programme, project, change methodology tools and practices
  • Successful management of substantial change activities in a large organisation
  • Strong operational service delivery and design experience  in a complex organisation 
  • Excellent communications skills, both oral and written
