Post Graduate Electrical Engineer Level 7 Apprentice

The Directorate of Estates & Campus Services (DECS) is the largest support department within the University of York.  Our role is 'to provide services and facilities to the core business of the University and the wider University community’. We monitor service levels, ensuring that we deliver these safely, to high quality, and in a timely manner to meet the University’s operational needs. Our teams are multi-disciplined with colleagues drawn from across surveying, engineering, architecture and facilities management. This creates a fantastic learning environment for our Apprentices, who also benefit from the continual opportunity to learn from different colleagues.

We are looking for a Graduate Electrical Engineer for this interesting and challenging opportunity which offers a genuine route to further your career and to continue gaining experience towards Chartered status.

The University of York fund the cost of this Level 7 Apprenticeship and will work in conjunction with the relevant training provider to ensure you are fully supported throughout your further development.

You will gain invaluable skills and experience, whilst being mentored and supported by professional senior engineers.   Mentors will be in place to support you and to regularly review your Continuing Professional Development Record, to help ensure the maximum benefit from this training opportunity.

In addition, you will benefit from receipt of training from the University’s central award winning People and Organisational Development Team.

Role

In this role, you will develop your skills to be able to formally carry out activities on equipment and systems (including repair and overhaul) to ensure that the systems and components being maintained and/or tested operate within stipulated parameters.  You will then be able to determine the appropriate use of test equipment to support the maintenance activities in order to keep the system/component operating in a serviceable manner. You will learn to understand results of tested equipment and interpret these into a plan of activities that will return the equipment to full working order or to a condition where it is authorised to work within certain limitation(s).

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • Professionally recognised Bachelors Level Degree or equivalent such as BEng, BSc in a STEM subject
  • Working knowledge and enthusiasm for Engineering
  • Experience of analysing data and presenting summary information in a clear and concise format
  • Administrative activities, e.g. invoicing, creating/ distributing mail-outs
  • Highly organised with a proactive, self-starting approach to work
  • Enthusiastic and resilient with an eagerness to learn
  • Behaviours consistent with our DECS values
