Role Description

This is an exciting new training position in which you will work towards completion of the Level 6 Chartered Surveyor Apprenticeship which includes a BSc (Hons) degree and a professional qualification as a chartered member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS).  The apprenticeship will follow the Commercial Property Surveyors pathway. 

Working within the University of York in the Directorate of Estates & Campus Services (DECS) you will join a multi-disciplined team with colleagues drawn from across surveying, engineering, architecture and facilities management.  We offer a fantastic learning environment during which you will receive continual support and the opportunity to learn from different colleagues about all aspects of the property lifecycle and its management.

DECS continually work with property industry partners such as quantity surveyors, project managers, town planners, developers, contractors and property consultants.  In this apprenticeship you will have good opportunities to learn more about the industry from these partners and will build your own professional network of contacts.

The University of York fund the cost of this Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship and will work in conjunction with the relevant training provider to ensure you are fully supported throughout your further development.

Role

Whilst working towards completion of this apprenticeship you will work closely with and be mentored by the University’s Land & Buildings Manager.  You will receive further support from other professional senior colleagues who will help ensure you achieve the maximum benefit from this training position.  In addition you will benefit from receipt of training from the University’s central award winning People and Organisational Development Team.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • Three A2 levels at Grade C or higher, or the equivalent or a Level 3 apprenticeship in a construction or property related discipline.
  • An awareness of property and real estate issues in the context of working in valuation/estates management and surveying.
  • Competency in a range of computer applications and ICT including google products and Microsoft
  • Ability to work and study in an environment where literacy and numeracy skills have been demonstrated
  • Highly organised with a proactive, self-starting approach to work
  • Enthusiastic and resilient with an eagerness to learn
  • Behaviours consistent with our DECS values

This role is available as a full time, fixed term training post (approximately 5 years).
