Role Description

Department

In the Economics department, in an average academic year, there are around 145 exams and 12 assessed essay submissions, totalling almost 7,000 pieces of assessed work, completed by around 800 students comprising of both Undergraduate and Postgraduate Economics students, plus students on joint degree programmes with other departments.  These assessments are spread over the 3 University common assessment periods which take place in January, April/May and August (resits).

This role is designed to assist the Assessments Administrator and provide support in all aspects of examination and assessment processes and procedures for the department.    

Student attendance is monitored for all students, and data collected / tracked for all seminars and supervision meetings throughout each academic year.  Attendance is also monitored over the summer vacation period for postgraduate student and there are additional attendance management requirements for students who are sponsored by the University with a Tier 4 visa.  

This role will provide administrative support and assistance to the Student Services Manager in the monitoring, tracking and recording of attendance, and in ensuring that the department complies with the detailed attendance monitoring requirements for Tier 4 sponsored students.

Role

We require an Assessments and Attendance Monitoring Assistant to join our busy team of Professional Support Staff.  You will carry out a range of administrative processes in order to facilitate the smooth running of these important services for the Department.

You will provide efficient and rigorous support to the assessment and examination procedures of the department, ensuring that they are in line with University requirements.

You will support the department to meet the University requirements relating to the monitoring of student attendance, including those relating to sponsored Tier 4 students).

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

This is a busy and varied role and the successfully candidate will be able to demonstrate that they have;

  • A good educational background and excellent IT skills.
  • Knowledge of administrative procedures and processes, and of MS Office applications.
  • Understanding and awareness of the needs of a diverse student population and of confidentiality of personal information and appropriate levels of disclosure.
  • Skills required to work with numerical data, manipulate large complex datasets and highlight problems by statistical analysis.
  • Excellent organisational skills to manage competing and strict deadlines, working accurately and with initiative, and the ability to review processes and suggest improvements.
  • Effective and confident communication skills, and excellent interpersonal skills, to provide a high level of customer service.
  • Experience of proactively supporting a Committee.
  • Experience of working in a busy administrative role, to strict deadlines, with confidential and sensitive data.
  • Experience of working with, and proving support and advice to, a wide and diverse range of people at all levels.  Working flexibly and as an effective team member with a willingness to adapt.
  • Ability to handle sensitive issues in a calm and professional manner, and comfortable working under pressure.
  • The ability and resilience to maintain a level of responsiveness whilst handling changing priorities and demands.
