Department

We are seeking a highly-motivated, enthusiastic person to provide administrative support for HR processes within the Department. The post will involve working closely with the Department Manager and University HR Services.

The Department of Physics, which is at the forefront of pioneering global research and technological advancement in our world leading research centres, focused around biophysics, condensed matter physics, nuclear physics, as well as plasma physics and fusion energy at the York Plasma Institute. This is an opportunity to join the friendly and pro-active physics administration team and help innovate our current practices and procedures.  The post is 0.5FTE, and the days and times are negotiable.

Role

You will be the first point of contact for staff in the Department on routine HR-related queries.  Areas of work will include staff recruitment, maintaining accurate records, monitoring fixed term contracts, booking casual workers, and ensuring Equality and Diversity policies are adhered to.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

You will have a thorough knowledge of HR policies and procedures, preferably with an understanding of how these operate in Higher Education. Your skills will include the ability to communicate with a wide range of people, excellent IT skills including the use of Google Suite, the ability to follow process and prioritise your own work, and the ability to maintain accurate records.  You will have experience of providing an excellent standard of customer service, and a commitment to and understanding of equality and diversity issues relevant to the role.

 

This role is on a part-time basis for 18.50 hours a week (0.5 FTE).
