Role Description

Role

The University is looking for an experienced and successful primary teacher to work with the North East regional lead to deliver the highly successful Children Challenging Industry programme, with a focus on Teesside, but with potential to work in the wider region. This will involve travelling to schools and companies across the region to provide exemplary science teaching and CPD for teachers and industrialists. The post requires someone with strengths in teaching science and a high level of self-motivation, and who would enjoy working with other teachers as well as our industry partners.

You will be employed by the University of York and based at NEPIC in the Wilton Centre, Wilton, Redcar. Training and support for running industrial aspects of the project will be provided by the Centre for Industry Education Collaboration if required.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

You will have a first degree or PGCE in primary or middle school teaching with a working knowledge of a wide range of primary learning and development techniques and learning interventions, particularly science. You will have the ability to work collaboratively, communicate effectively with adults and children, organise your own workload and carry out administrative and IT related tasks.  You will have a minimum of 4 years’ teaching in primary schools and ideally have experience of developing teaching and/or training materials. We are looking for someone with the ability to enthuse industrialists and teachers who is committed to continuing professional development. 

The post is part-time and available at 0.4 fte commencing between 1 January and 1 April 2020, depending on availability, until 31 August 2020, with the possibility of extension.

Starting salary will be within Grade 6 of the University scales 32,817 - £40,322  reduced pro-rata).

The role could present an opportunity for professional development through secondment from a local primary school.

Condition of appointment

This role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. Consequently, all applicants will be asked to declare both unspent and spent convictions on their application form.

Appointment of the successful candidate will be conditional on a Disclosure and Barring Service check.
