Role Description

Following the ongoing success of our Apprenticeship scheme, we are looking to appoint a Sports Turf Operative Apprentice.

During this training role the apprentice will support the established Grounds Maintenance Team in completing activities associated with all aspects of grounds maintenance and sports fields works. 

In addition the role holder will attend Bishop Burton College and work towards the attainment of Level 2 Sports Turf Operative Apprenticeship course.

On completion of the apprenticeship they will be recognised by the industry as being fully qualified in the appointed trade.

You should be enthusiastic and self-motivated and ideally have some hands on experience of a horticulture related activity or a genuine interest Horticulture, Grounds Maintenance and/or Sports Fields work. 

Employment is not guaranteed at the end of the apprenticeship, however, it is anticipated that the role holder will gain the skills and qualifications required to apply for relevant University job vacancies. 

Role

The Grounds Maintenance Team carries responsibility for the maintenance of all grounds maintenance and sports fields work. During a fixed term period (normally 24 months), the Apprentices will participate in a relevant training programme.   

To work towards being a qualified Groundsperson. 

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

•  Successful completion of the training partner’s entry requirements and assessment

•  Grade 3 (D) or above at GCSE to include Maths and English

•  Good written and oral communication skills

•  Good level of accuracy and attention to detail in the preparation and presentation of work

•  Enthusiastic and self-motivated

•  Reliable and trustworthy

•  Ability to work independently and as part of a team
