We are committed to supporting our staff to learn new skills and as such would like to actively encourage applications from people who have the right attitude and aptitude even if you don’t think you can ‘tick-off’ every tool or technology we’ve listed in the job description.

  • Act as Technical lead for specific projects and manage external contractors to ensure the project(s) is completed to quality & timescales
  • Manage all aspects of the diverse technical support services provided by the functional groups and ensure staff provide help, advice, and resolutions across a range of IT related issues
  • Manage the development, implementation, maintenance, and support of business critical software that underpins key services provided by the group to the University/Department
  • Define, agree and implement appropriate tools and processes for the effective development and maintenance of services.
  • Maintain effective systems and processes for planning, tracking and verifying outcomes and service improvements.
  • Co-ordinate the team’s support rota and ensure there is sufficient staff coverage to maintain service continuity
  • Cultivate a culture of continual personal and service development to foster an open, collaborative and innovative working environment

Alongside a good understanding of modern approaches to application and data architecture, you’ll have a keen interest in development best practices and the tools that support it.  In particular, we’re keen to hear from individuals with experience in some of the following areas:-

  • A modern programming language such as Java, C#, Node.js or Groovy
  • Development and design patterns
  • An MVC framework, such as Grails
  • SQL and database design
  • Development of REST APIs
  • A passion for Agile methodologies and concepts
  • Amazon Web Services

What we offer

You’ll benefit from:-

  • 38 days holiday
  • Competitive salary
  • Flexible working
  • Generous pension (including 18% Employer Contribution)
  • Extensive professional development opportunities
  • Flexible benefits scheme (including cycle to work, dental & health plans, season ticket loans)
