Role Description


The Department of Environment & Geography is embarking on an ambitious project to define its strategy for the next ten years and beyond. The Department is a leading centre for teaching and research on the world’s environmental issues, and hopes it will have a major part to play in finding sustainable solutions to these challenges.


We are looking for a Project Manager who can help the Department rethink what is possible and deliver a step change in departmental ambition. The Project Manager will do this through effective relationship building, facilitation, and individual and group interviews. You will oversee all administrative aspects of the project and take responsibility for keeping things on track.  You will work closely with the Department’s leadership team to turn this information into a coherent vision and strategy, as well as working with interested parties outside the Department to maximise the impact of this strategy. This is a new role with a fixed term of 21 months.

This new role is an opportunity to use your project management skills to assist the Department in realising its strategic ambitions as well as to influence working practice. 

Skills, Experience & Qualifications needed


  • Relevant degree or equivalent professional qualifications


  • Significant project management experience, working with staff to deliver multiple objectives
  • Delivering projects successfully in a changing and high pressured environment
  • Delivering/co-ordinating a high quality service to a range of internal customers

Skills, abilities & competencies

  • Good problem solving skills
  • An organised and methodical approach
  • Confident negotiator, able to initiate discussions and follow them through to point of conclusion
  • Able to adapt to changing priorities to support team members at short notice
  • Strong IT Skills – able to use Google mail, Google calendar, Google docs, MS Word, MS Excel and quickly learn new/complex systems
  • Able to communicate effectively with multiple individuals at different levels, with different perspectives
  • Able to work in a team and form positive working relationships with colleagues/ external contacts
  • A high degree of attention to detail
  • Able to communicate and visualise project findings in a compelling way
