Role Description


The Department of Health Sciences is very proud of our nursing and midwifery programmes. Our pre-registration students split their time between studying theoretical modules at University, and developing their professional practice in a variety of practice locations across our region, working with registered professionals and patients to gain experience and achieve their required practice learning outcomes.  

The Practice Education Support Manager will liaise closely with other members of the Practice Education team, with programme leaders and other members of the teaching team and with practice partners at all levels to ensure that we maintain sufficient capacity of high-quality placements available to meet the requirements of all students on our programmes. 

This is a complex challenge in a constantly changing environment.  Providing excellent practice experiences for our students is vital to the success of our programmes and we rely on our partnerships with providers both within the NHS and the Private and Voluntary sector to achieve this.  We have a new nursing curriculum starting in 2019; and there is a new national model for practice-based learning in Nursing and Midwifery.   This is a very exciting time for the Department and an excellent opportunity for the right person to join this dynamic team and help shape and develop our practice education provision for the future.


This is a new role within Health Sciences combining elements of previous roles. Reporting to the Department Manager, the Practice Education Support Manager will lead the administrative team within the broader Practice Education (PE) team in the Department, led by the Academic Lead for Practice Education.  The team will plan and allocate appropriate placements for each student through each stage of their programme, using bespoke software, and communicate regarding allocations to colleagues, practice partners and students.  We are seeking to replace our existing allocations software with a new system and the role holder will lead this implementation.       The team will monitor placement allocations throughout the programme, making adjustments as required.  For all programmes with a practice-learning element, the team will provide support for students and staff and practice partners in using our e-portfolio (currently PebblePad) to record students’ time and experiences, and enable the assessment of their achievements in practice.    

Skills, Experience & Qualifications needed

  • We are seeking a dynamic manager who is able to build relationships with colleagues and stakeholders and ensure systems and processes are effective and streamlined. You will have excellent IT skills, particularly in data analysis and reporting. You will have relevant experience and demonstrable expertise to ensure that we meet our objectives and provide excellent support to our students and stakeholders.     You will be organised and flexible and able to adapt to changing priorities in a complex environment.
