The Department of Education is seeking to appoint a 0.6FTE Project Coordinator for an 18-month appointment, ideally to start 1st November 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter, to join a European Research Council-funded project titled, ‘Edu*Select: Developing a Commercial Platform to Deliver Teacher Selection Tools to Education Partners.' The project is led by Professor Rob Klassen in the Department of Education.
The post-holder will be working on commercialisation of research from the European Research Council-funded Teacher Selection Project. The project is focused on building understanding of the psychological characteristics (i.e., 'non-cognitive' attributes such as personality and motivation) of successful teachers and is generating new knowledge about the development of successful teaching practices. Our Edu*Select Proof of Concept project will explore development of a commercial platform from which to deliver predictive and cost-effective selection tools for selection into initial teacher education (ITE) and employment in the UK and internationally. The teacher selection tools we are developing—a suite of text- and video-based SJTs alongside additional technologies including multiple mini-interviews, represent a disruptive innovation—a new and better way to make decisions about the selection of prospective teachers into jobs and into teacher training programmes.
You will carry out a range of responsibilities to ensure the effective co-ordination of the project ensuring that the project is delivered in line with agreed milestones and objectives. You will coordinate technical and business/legal activities and serve as a liaison with potential clients. The role will also involve liaison with consultants, clients and prospective clients, managing marketing and social media campaigns and working with the PO to further develop links with policy-makers, especially in the UK, to consider the national roll out of selection tools.
You will have a good first degree, preferably in psychology, education or business, or equivalent experience. You must have good knowledge of schools systems in the UK and internationally and of the requirements of good project co-ordination including financial administration. An active team player, you should also have excellent writing and communication skills. Familiarity with, and experience working in the education sector, knowledge of organisational or educational psychology, business and/or marketing experience are all desirable.
