Department

This is a newly-created role within the Professional Services Finance Team, to improve the capacity of the team to support the management of the University’s Capital Programme

Role

Reporting to the Finance Business Partner – Capital, and working closely with various colleagues across Finance and other departments, the Capital Finance Assistant will act as point of contact for a range of queries, record & process financial transactions and support the University’s processes for capital projects, whilst ensuring adherence to the University’s financial reporting standards and capital procedures. Some of the key duties are listed below:

  • Support the capital budget and forecasting process, including inputting budgets & forecasts into the financial and project management systems
  • Investigate variances to budget, provide financial reports as required by budget holders and investigate financial queries from the Directorates
  • Process journals & accruals to ensure accurate monthly management information for capital budgets, and ensure effective housekeeping of the capital projects information within the financial and project management systems
  • Undertake initial review of capital project forms, identifying further information required and gathering relevant approvals from staff across the University
  • Act as a key financial systems user and run queries & reports as required, together with advising & training other financial system users in the University

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • Minimum of either 5 GCSE passes at Grade C or above (incl Maths & English), or an equivalent qualification
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Sound understanding of financial processes, procedures & regulations
  • Ability to work effectively & flexibly as part of a team
  • Ability to organise & prioritise own workload to work within required deadlines

Part time applications will be considered for 0.7 FTE upwards.
