Role Description

We are seeking someone who would like to join our busy, friendly Technical Team in Marketing, Recruitment, Admissions and Outreach.

Department

Marketing, Recruitment, Admissions and Outreach (MRAO) forms part of the University’s Directorate of External Relations. MRAO has responsibility for the following:

  • Marketing to raise awareness of York, its brand and product offering, for prospective applicants and other key stakeholders, including the production of effective marketing materials and conversion communications using the most appropriate and effective media, during the various stages of the student journey through to enrolment;
  • Recruitment strategy, tactics and delivery to facilitate the targeted recruitment of prospective undergraduate and postgraduate students in the UK/EU, including lead acquisition, customer and channel management, targeted schools engagement and the delivery of key recruitment and conversion events;
  • Admissions policy and strategy in relation to undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as the operation of the University’s admissions function; and
  • Outreach specifically to students with widening participation characteristics.

MRAO works closely with other sections of the Directorate: in particular International Student Recruitment, and Communications, but also the Office of Philanthropic Partnerships and Alumni and the Centre for Lifelong Learning.

In addition we maintain key relationships with academic and support departments across the University.

MRAO is based in the Stables Building on Campus West. Co-location of all teams within MRAO leads to effective coordination of the Office’s functions and constructive collaboration between teams.

Role

The role is to provide technical capability in order to support and develop systems which enable MRAO to meet the challenge of handling increasing numbers of applications and prospects while improving the service to these customers. These systems underpin much of the Office’s work including online applications, statistical monitoring and reporting, and electronic and web-based communications with candidates. At the same time, we want to be able to use the information which comes from our enquirer and applicant pool more effectively to make strategic decisions about future recruitment activity and to make better operational decisions as admissions cycles progress.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

You will be a strong team player with the ability to work to tight deadlines, as well as demonstrating excellent organisational and interpersonal skills. You will be friendly, personable, welcoming and enthusiastic, with the ability to prioritise a varied workload.  You will also have a good honours degree or equivalent, first-rate IT ability, and excellent communication skills. Experience of working in higher education, especially in recruitment and / or admissions, is advantageous.

Informal enquiries welcome to: James Butterworth email: james.butterworth@york.ac.uk; Tel. + 44 (0)1904 32 4709.

The University is committed to promoting a diverse and inclusive community  – a place where we can all be ourselves and succeed on merit. We offer a range of family friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements, staff engagement forums, campus facilities and services to support staff from different backgrounds.
