The Department of Theatre, Film, Television and Interactive Media are seeking to appoint a Communications Manager to support the XR Stories project. XR Stories has been awarded £5.5M from the Arts & Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and has a total value of £15M with match-funding from the University of York, the British Film Industry (BFI) and Screen Yorkshire (SY) amongst other private sector sources. XR Stories undertakes Research & Development (R&D) and innovation with small and medium size enterprises (SMEs) operating in the screen industries sector (film, TV, games and related media) in Yorkshire and Humber, helping those companies to rise to the challenges and opportunities offered by new immersive and interactive technologies for storytelling.
You will be based either on the University’s East Campus or in York city centre.
This role has been created to lead and deliver the communications strategy around the XR Stories project, developing approaches for our long-term communications and marketing. You will work with the project team and third parties to deliver on this communications strategy to ensure key stakeholders are kept informed about project activities and cross-partner communications are managed. You will engage with and reach out to our regional businesses in the creative screen industries, lead on the management of our website and social media activities and develop copy for multiple audiences and destinations. You will play a key role in formulating and developing campaigns to reach specific audiences and put in place metrics to evaluate the impact resulting from these activities.
Skills, Experience & Qualification needed
You will be educated to degree level and/or hold an equivalent professional qualification or relevant experience. You will have a thorough understanding of digital communications including websites and social media, and experience of developing and delivering on strategic communications plans for diverse stakeholders/audiences. You will have knowledge/experience of working with creative screen industries (film, TV, games and related media). You will have good people skills with evidence of building effective relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, an aptitude for understanding and communicating the challenges and opportunities of immersive and interactive technologies for the screen industries to a range of audiences, and well-developed communication skills to engage effectively, both orally and in writing, using a range of media. You will be able to develop, implement and measure the success of marketing strategies, with strong IT, planning and project management skills and the ability to deliver results to tight deadlines.
