Role Description

Two tutoring roles are available in the Academic Support Office’s Learning Enhancement Team from a collaboration with the University’s Management School to enhance academic skills, transition and success within postgraduate programmes.  You will have the opportunity to work with a large international department as part of a creative, dynamic team, providing Writing and Language Skills Centre tutoring support, delivering academic skills workshops aimed at improving student performance in lecture / seminar interactions and developing reading and writing skills.  You will also have opportunities to contribute to other Learning Enhancement Team activities.

You will have a higher education teaching qualification (or equivalent recognition), experience of supporting students with academic writing and speaking skills and transition to higher study and experience of teaching students  from a range of backgrounds and levels including international student groups.  You will be a collaborative and supportive team member with knowledge of the national HE teaching and learning agenda and of current research in HE pedagogy, a proactive and positive approach, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

In order to ensure higher tutor availability during key periods for Masters students, you will be required to work three 10 week blocks, with salary being paid over the duration of your employment.  It is expected that the annual leave entitlement arising from the contract will be taken in agreement with your line manager outside of your normal working pattern. The precise timing of the blocks to be worked is being determined in conjunction with the York Management School, but will substantially overlap with York’s three terms: the model will thereby enable teaching to continue in some of the vacation weeks, when postgraduate students are still on campus.

The posts are available on a full time basis for 30 weeks of the year (depending on start date). The posts are available until 31 July 2020.
