Role Description

The Biorenewables Development Centre (BDC) part of the University of York wishes to immediately recruit a Senior Technologist to the Process Development Unit (PDU) to support delivery of the ERDF-funded Bioeconomy Growth Programme and other applied research projects.

The centre is an open access business-facing R&D scale-up facility. It works closely with the University of York academic research groups as well as engaging with a wide range of commercial and other academic organisations.   You will work with other technical and non-technical BDC staff to ensure the smooth running of industrial R&D and grant-supported projects undertaken by the BDC.  Clients and collaborators of the BDC include small/medium enterprises (SMEs), multinational businesses, academic groups and public sector organisations.

You will provide laboratory-based support for the PDU, as well as contributing to a series of industry-facing biorenewables-based projects particularly aimed at regional SMEs, providing technical input into projects based upon the improvement of plant, microbial and bio-based waste materials. Ideally, you will be a dynamic character who is self-motivated, outgoing and organised, with the ability to work with a wide range of people and a willingness to learn about new techniques and research methods. Experience with biorefining, pre-processing, downstream processing and/or scale-up would be an advantage.

This is an outstanding opportunity to make a significant contribution to a forward looking, expanding research centre with a highly commercial outlook.

The salary range for this position is £32,236 to £39,609 per year, within Grade 6 of the University salary scale.
