Role Description

A significant force for education and empowerment, social and community advancement, and a major generator of economic growth; the University of York is a world-leading institution with a reputation for excellent interdisciplinary research and outstanding teaching and learning. York has a unique heritage, distinctive profile and welcoming culture; yet at the same time, it continues to evolve, embracing the values of modern society and acting as a champion for diversity and inclusion. Every aspect of life at the University of York is informed by our founding principles of excellence, equality and opportunity for all.

A community of over 20,000 students and staff, with a turnover of £367 million, the University is a crucial contributor to the aspirations and ambitions of its city and region. We are recruiting a new Pro-Vice-Chancellor (PVC) for Partnerships and Engagement to provide leadership and strategic direction in cultivating and advancing effective collaborations with our key partners. In an era when universities flourish most when operating in partnerships, systems and networks, this role will help to shape and lead the University’s relationships in York, Yorkshire and the wider North of England. It will harness our research, our teaching and the contribution of our graduates to help drive forward the local and regional economy while also opening up economic opportunity across the region, including our role in widening access to university.

An ability to generate a shared vision for external engagement within the University community and to encourage participation in, and engagement with, this vision will be essential. Relationships will be intensified across a broad spectrum of local and regional partners, including the City of York, other local authorities, economic development bodies, businesses large and small, and universities, colleges and schools across the region.

The PVC for Partnerships and Engagement will be at the heart of York’s institutional strategy, as it evolves successfully as a modern expression of an impactful and influential force for public good.

We particularly welcome applications from female candidates, and candidates from minority ethnic backgrounds, who are under-represented at senior management level in the institution. #EqualityatYork
