Role Description

The Department of Computer Science is advertising for 4 Lecturers (Associate Professors) in Computer Science. You will have a PhD in computer science or equivalent. You will be joining a Department with research areas across the broad spectrum of Computer Science. You will be an active researcher and have an excellent publication record.

As part of a continuing investment in Computer Science, we are now recruiting four new Lecturers (Assistant Professors). This reflects the Department’s vision for growth and ambition to remain one of the top Computer Science Departments in the UK. We wish to appoint excellent and enthusiastic colleagues that can contribute to our research and teaching activities. They will join an ambitious expanding Department with a community of academics that publish in the highest ranked journals and conferences, attract significant research income and teach to the highest standards. We welcome outstanding applicants in all areas of computer science, especially in:

  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Autonomous Systems
  • High Performance Computing
  • Human Computer Interaction
  • Model-based software engineering
  • Real-time and Embedded Systems
  • Robotics

Key Responsibilities and qualifications etc.

  • To lead on and/or contribute to the production of high quality research outputs and research outcomes.
  • To develop innovative research proposals and to obtain external funding for them.
  • To develop and deliver teaching across the core Computer Science curriculum
  • To plan, deliver and critically review teaching and assessment activities, and provide high-quality feedback to students
  • To design and deliver specialist modules to advanced undergraduate and taught postgraduate students
  • To supervise PhD students
  • To contribute to the administration and management of the department.
  • PhD in Computer Science or cognate discipline.
  • Knowledge of a range of teaching techniques to enthuse and engage students, leading to positive educational outcomes.
  • Research expertise and publication record relevant to one or more of the Departmental themes, or within one of the Department’s research groups.
  • Proven ability to carry out high quality research which is publicly evidenced with publications, grants, etc
  • Display creativity, initiative and judgement in applying appropriate approaches to teaching, learning support and scholarly activities.
