This is an exciting opportunity join SEI York's research team to explore the human health and environment implications of industry and manufacturing in South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. You will work as part of SEI York's 'Air quality and Climate' research group in a full time role that will last for eight months.
You will have a PhD in environmental science (or relevant subject area) or equivalent experience and will be experienced in conducting systematic literature reviews. You will also have excellent writing and communication skills and be adept at conducting interdisciplinary research and communicating with stakeholders from different environmental perspectives and cultures. Successful applicants will have a proven ability to conduct high quality systematic reviews, good knowledge of issues associated with environmental pollution and a proven ability in producing written outputs to a high standard. Applicants will be able to work independently to solve problems and perform tasks, as well as being able to work effectively as part of an international team across research disciplines
The key roles of the post will involve you conducting a systematic review of the published literature describing the impacts of industrial pollution on air, soil and water pollution. The research conducted will also involve interviewing stakeholders in the regions to understand their view on industrial pollution; collecting data from international datasets to quantify the current extent of industrial pollution and how this has changed over recent decades and helping to identify interventions (both technical and behavioural) to alleviate the worst effects of pollution in the regions. The role will also involve a substantial communications component, with the publication of journal papers, websites, blogs, info-graphics, videos etc... to communicate the findings of the research to a wider audience.
The position will be based at the SEI offices in York where you will interact with both SEI York colleagues as well as colleagues in the Environment & Geography Dept. The role will also involve regular communications with staff in our offices in SEI Asia (Bangkok) and SEI Africa (Nairobi). There may also be opportunities to travel to locations in South Asia and Africa for project work.
