Role Description

We are looking to appoint a Digital Preservation Archivist to manage the long-term or permanent accessibility and viability of the University’s digital research records, as well as records produced by management and administration. The long-term preservation of digital archives presented to the University, and the preservation of archives in analogue format that can only be retained in digital format (such as recorded sound), are also pressing needs in a University with an active archive collecting policy. In addition, the digital cataloguing of digital and non-digital archives, the digitisation of non-digital objects (such as paper and parchment records and chapters or images in published books), and the promulgation of these resources, all require digital expertise.

Feedback from the Borthwick Institute’s recent application for Archives Accreditation noted that we are a national lead in the field of digital preservation, but it was recognised that further progress is required for the University to benefit from this important preliminary work. You will build on the preparatory work that has been carried out, to ensure that we can continue to preserve digital records across the University in line with developing standards.

Based in the Borthwick Institute for Archives, you will be part of a lively and supportive archive community.

The salary will be within the range of £39,609 - £48,676 per year on an open contract. This is a full time position (37 hours a week) and is available immediately. A flexi-time scheme operates which allows for flexible working within operational guidelines.
