Role Description

Creative Media Labs

Creative Media Labs (CML) is a newly funded R&D partnership, bringing together academia and industry to develop innovative approaches to immersive and interactive storytelling across film, TV, games and other creative digital media. CML is led by the University of York, with its core partners, Screen Yorkshire and the British Film Institute. We are seeking an experienced, personable and pro-active R&D Projects Manager to manage a variety of research, development and innovation projects. You will formally be employed in the University’s Department of Theatre, Film and Television, but you will report to the CML Programme Manager. You will be based either on the University’s East Campus or in York city centre.

The Role

This is a vital role working closely with members of the Executive Board, the other members of the Delivery Team and industry partners. You will support the development and implementation of a portfolio of R&D projects from inception to completion, working with a range of stakeholders across the creative screen industries (from the BBC, BT and Sony to Yorkshire-based companies such as Warp, Revolution Software and Duck Soup) and the university sector. You will also be responsible for co-developing, managing and delivering the overall R&D project process. You will therefore play an important role in maintaining and developing the CML partnership and in ensuring that CML is a well-organised, highly collaborative, professional and enjoyable place to work.

Skills, Experience & Qualification Needed

You will be an effective and inspiring project manager, with a good understanding of the principles of project management and experience of working successfully on complex projects and with a range of public and private stakeholders. You will be educated to degree level and have a professional qualification, or equivalent experience. You will have substantial experience of strategic planning, service delivery, legal/contractual monitoring and financial management. You will also have a good understanding of both the needs of the creative industries and the role of research and development, including the process of commercialisation, and will have a track record of innovative work in that context.  You will have excellent communication, IT, organisational and problem-solving skills. You will be motivated and self-reliant, comfortable working alone but also a strong team player. You will also be energetic and resilient, proactive and creative.
