A vacancy has arisen within the Research and Enterprise Directorate for an experienced leader to head the Research Grants & Contracts (RGC) office. The Directorate supports academic staff and departments to undertake research and to disseminate the knowledge created to external stakeholders for the benefit of society. RGC is the largest of eight teams within the Directorate, and you will be responsible for the leadership and development of the 30 staff within RGC, administering £70M of research income per year.
You will be responsible for application and post-award operations and processes across the University, to ensure compliance with both external and internal requirements and to support further growth in research income. Therefore you will have extensive knowledge of the Higher Education research funding environment, administrative systems, funding arrangements and contractual issues relating to academic research. You will have experience of providing complex services and of externally funded research in the HE sector.
You will possess an undergraduate degree and excellent written and verbal communication skills. You will be financially literate and be familiar with the principles of accounting. You will be able to work collaboratively with a wide range of colleagues and will have significant recent management experience including change management and a commitment to staff development. You will have a strong, positive attitude, with enthusiasm and drive to provide an excellent service from a dedicated team of research support professionals.
