Role Description

The University of York International Pathway College (IPC), provides new routes for International students to access the transformational higher education programmes of the University of York.  The IPC offers high quality programmes designed, academically led, taught and managed by the University.

You will be responsible for the effective management and leadership of the Foundation Programmes in Business, Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities, and provide specialist subject support across the IPC.  As the Programme lead, you will supervise a team of teaching staff and maintain high academic standards in line with the University’s quality assurance processes.

Role

  • You will work with the Director of the IPC to ensure the smooth, effective running and delivery of the IPC programmes.  This role will be of particular interest to candidates who enjoy working with, and supporting the needs of, international students.
  • To lead the design, development and delivery of a range of Foundation programmes and ensure that they comply with the quality standards and regulations of the University
  • To take responsibility for overseeing, developing and promoting innovative teaching and learning approaches and materials which create interest, understanding and enthusiasm amongst IPC students
  • To undertake effectively a range of administrative and managerial responsibilities, including the recruitment and support of permanent and sessional teaching staff across the IPC
  • To lecture, lead seminars, tutorials and demonstrate best practice in teaching and learning
  • To work alongside other subject specialists to ensure students are provided with opportunities to promote a smooth transition from the IPC to their chosen academic department within the University

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • Postgraduate degree in relevant subject or equivalent experience
  • A PhD in a relevant subject is desirable
  • Appropriate academic, professional and/ or teaching qualifications e.g. PGCE, DELTA, or a willingness to complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice
  • Experience in teaching and learning in an International setting at foundation level or in an evidenced similar context
  • Extensive knowledge in teaching relevant subject area to design & develop programmes and the provision of learning support specifically for international students
  • Experience of communicating with International students who have a lower level of English language
  • Experience of recruiting, and leading, a dynamic team of tutors
