Role Description

Careers Officer (Widening Participation)

Careers & Placements, Student and Academic Services

Grade 5: £24,983 full time, open contract

The University of York is committed to supporting all its students to achieve the very best graduate outcomes that they can aspire to.  Some of our students may require additional information and support to enable them to do this, particularly when their family background does not have the knowledge and networks around the graduate labour market that are available to others.  You will be responsible for helping the Careers and Placements department at York to better identify and work with students from these less advantaged backgrounds.

You should be able to collect and analyse data to support activities aimed at building students’ knowledge, confidence and experiences in their progress toward a positive graduate outcome.  You will have excellent interpersonal skills and will be able to work alongside individual students as well as lead small group work around preparing for work or further study.  You will be comfortable managing and interpreting data and will be keen to use this to measure and evaluate activities and their effectiveness.

Experience of working in higher education is highly desirable as is a knowledge of the current issues around the graduate labour market.  You will be involved in preparing information and learning materials for particular student groups and colleagues so an understanding of social media and an ability to transmit complex messages simply and easily will be a real advantage.

For an informal discussion of the role please contact: Irena Zientek on 01904 332939

Closing date: 2 September 2018

Interview date: 25 September 2018

Vacancy reference: 6928

The University is committed to promoting a diverse and inclusive community  – a place where we can all be ourselves and succeed on merit. We offer a range of family friendly, inclusive employment policies, flexible working arrangements, staff engagement forums, campus facilities and services to support staff from different backgrounds.
