Digital Creativity Labs is seeking to appoint a part time communications and events manager to join our team, to help raise the profile of our world-leading multi-disciplinary research in digital creativity with industry, policymaking and academia.
DC Labs (www.digitalcreativity.ac.uk) is a world centre of excellence for impact-driven research in digital creativity, focusing on digital games, interactive media and the rich space where they converge as a result of a major, £18 million, investment by 3 research councils, the University of York, Durham University Business School, Falmouth University, Goldsmiths (University of London) and over 100 external partners.
You will be a key team member within DC Labs, working closely with the management team to raise its visibility, formulating campaigns to ensure that relevant people in industry, policymaking and academia are aware of the brand and know about the fantastic work being undertaken, with the aim of helping DC Labs attract further investment to secure a future beyond the lifetime of the currently funded project. You will work directly with researchers from multiple disciplines to build a pipeline of news stories that promote DC Labs’ brand and vision, including facilitating and coordinating public relations, media and marketing communication, and disseminating information through a variety of communication channels, including web, social media, and through coordination of DC Labs’ presence at specific high-profile events.
You hold a degree or equivalent professional qualification and bring knowledge and experience of communicating complex scientific material to non-specialist audiences across a range of media. You bring experience of designing, delivering and measuring the success of marketing campaigns, ideally in the creative industries (especially games and media) and ideally bring a network of contacts in these industries. You are excited by the opportunity to use new forms of digital media (games, interactive media) to reach new audiences.
You must be self-driven and have excellent interpersonal skills, able to build effective collaborative relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including researchers and partner organisations, to discover media-worthy stories, requesting assistance when needed. While the post is advertised as 2 days per week for 2 years, DC Labs is involved in bidding for a wide range of large grants and commercial activity, giving strong potential for extension or increase in hours if desired. The role will be based in York, with a vibrant community of interdisciplinary researchers, with possibility of travel to spoke sites in Durham, London and Falmouth, and to events and partner organisations.
This role is an excellent opportunity for a creative individual who enjoys working with a team of innovative and exciting people across a variety of projects and disciplines.
