Role Description

The Hull York Medical School is seeking to appoint a high-calibre researcher and educationalist in medical/health professions education, to contribute to our newly established Health Professions Education Unit. The role is available at lecturer or senior lecturer level. We welcome interest from talented and exceptional academics with an impressive research profile appropriate to the level of application, and a collegiate approach to their work.

The post holder will be responsible for teaching and module leadership across the Health Professions Education Unit postgraduate programmes. This will include the Masters, Diploma and Certificate in Health Professions Education, Clinical tutor training programmes,  as well as the MBBS and Physicians Associate programmes. The role will involve the supervision of postgraduate research students and medical students undertaking research placements. In addition, the post holder will conduct research in accordance with the main themes of the unit’s activity. This position is to support the Director of Health Professions Education Unit in conducting and supporting research and scholarship across the School’s portfolio of programmes.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  • PhD in relevant field of study
  • Postgraduate teaching qualification and Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy
  • Specialist knowledge in medical/health professions education
  • Ability to undertake high-quality research and publish in leading, peer-reviewed journals  
  • Ability to define, lead, manage and attract funds for research, operating across disciplinary boundaries
  • Experience of and commitment to teaching and learning at undergraduate and postgraduate level
  • Experience of teaching on face-to-face, blended and distance learning programmes
  • Demonstrable capacity for creative thinking and planning
  • Substantial recent publication record in leading peer-reviewed journal
  • Evidence of national and/or international collaboration
