Role Description

We are seeking a talented postdoctoral research associate to work on an experimental Measurement Device Independent Quantum Key Distribution (MDI-QKD) project. This position is funded by the EPSRC’s Quantum Communications Hub and will be based at Toshiba Research Europe Ltd (TREL) in Cambridge in the group led by Dr Andrew Shields and under the supervision of Dr Zhiliang Yuan. The project will realise an autonomous prototype for MDI-QKD that can work continuously under realistic conditions. 

This is a fixed term position to start as soon as possible and will finish on 30 November 2019.  Although based at TREL, the position will be seconded by the University of York who will be the formal employer.

The responsibilities of this role include:

• Conducting research under the supervision of senior colleagues and to contribute to the production of research

• Providing guidance to collaborators and interacting with them to understand the experimental results that are achieved.

• Co-ordinating and attending meetings and research visits with collaborators

• Assisting in the identification and development of potential areas of research

• Undertaking appropriate organisational and administrative activities connected to the research project, including writing reports, presenting results and the development of promotional or educational material including website maintenance and development, as required.

You should hold an equivalent of a PhD in Physics or Engineering by the start date of your appointment with relevant expertise in photonics and/or high-speed electronics and also have the ability to develop research objectives and projects in collaboration with others.

You will have experience of writing up research work for publication and have the ability to work as part of a team and also to work independently using your own initiative. You will also have the competency to make presentations at conferences or exhibit work in other appropriate events.
