Role Description

Due to internal transfer, we are now seeking to recruit an experienced Accountant to join the Sciences Faculty team, supporting the Hull York Medical School (HYMS). The position will encompass both strategic support and day-to-day liaison, offering high quality technical assistance and maintaining positive relationships between the faculty finance team and the academic departments.

The Role

Your role will assist with the management of the faculty budget (circa £150m) working with departments based across the University of York campus as an operational specialist. You will assist with monthly management accounting and forecasting taking responsibility for ensuring our management accounting processes are appropriately maintained.

You will perform detailed work on financial systems in the production of high quality financial information. Under supervision of senior staff within HYMS/faculty finance team, undertaking a pivotal role in the management accounting and planning for specific business units.

Key Requirements:

  • GCSE qualifications, with a minimum of grade C in English and Mathematics
  • Working towards AAT or a CCAB/CIMA qualification
  • Sound understanding of financial processes, procedures and budgetary requirements
  • Good working knowledge of all MS Office applications, particularly Excel and Word
  • Experience of delivering high quality financial support in a complex organisation
  • Excellent numerical skills and showing confidence and attention to detail when dealing with finances and business/project planning
  • Ability to deliver clear, concise and appropriate financial and budgetary information to target audiences

Whilst being based within the York Sciences faculty, the post holder will be required to work flexibly across the organisation, with occasional travel to the Hull campus (travel expenses to Hull will be reimbursed). The remainder of the work will be performed in York, embedded within HYMS and the Science Faculty.
