Role Description

The Biorenewables Development Centre (BDC) at the University of York wishes to immediately recruit a full-time Business Development Unit (BDU) Manager.

The centre is an open access business facing R+D scale up facility that works closely with University of York academic research groups.  You will play an important role in the management of the BDU team, developing the business offering of the centre, engaging with customers and undertaking activities to complete project deliverables. In addition, you will support the establishment of a programme of contract R+D and grant funded projects.  Customers of the BDC include small/medium and multinational businesses, academic groups and public sector organisations.

This is a varied and challenging business development role requiring a highly consultative approach to generating new contacts.  You should hold a degree in science or business related subject with a background working with the small to medium enterprise (SME) sector including some commercial sales experience. You will have experience engaging with the University research and development sector to develop applied projects. You will be a confident presenter and will have a good track record in successful project delivery with a great deal of personal self-motivation.  This role requires excellent planning, time management and organisational skills with the ability to work with a wide range of people.  Experience of surveying, applying for and winning public sector funding would be an advantage.
