Contract Type: Fixed term up to 31 December 2018

Closing date: Midnight on 4 April 2018

The Department of Education is seeking to appoint a full or part-time Research Associate in Language Learning and Education to work on the ESRC and British Academy funded project ‘Open Accessible Summaries in Language Studies’ (OASIS).  The OASIS project aims to extend the reach of language research to wider audiences. It will address long-standing concerns about poor interfaces between research and those involved in language education.  The main aims of the project are to a) provide a sustainable, user-friendly and searchable database of short, non-technical summaries of research, and b) develop and deliver professional development activities to engage users with the summaries of research.

The Research Associate will have principle responsibility for: summarising published research in an engaging and non-technical format; refining the searchable OASIS web interface in collaboration with a technical team; helping international journal editors to launch procedures with their authors; developing and delivering professional development materials and events. The post-holder may also work on a range of other research projects related to language learning and education.

The post-holder will have an excellent understanding of high quality, peer-reviewed published research, in a wide range of domains of language learning and education research. They will have an outstanding grasp of diverse methodologies and theoretical perspectives. They will have considerable experience of and enjoy communicating research, especially to those outside academia. The associate will ideally bring experience of working in large, multi-disciplinary projects, involving collaboration with varied teams. The associate’s communication skills must be exemplary.

This post is available full time or part time, up to 31 December 2018. The post is available to start as soon as possible, depending on FTE. Job share applications are welcome.

Interviews will take place either w/c 16th or w/c 23rd April.

Informal enquiries may be directed to Dr Emma Marsden (; + 44 (0)1904 323610).
