This is an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to gain further research leadership and management experience in a laboratory focussed on the study of the structure, function and biophysical properties of proteins expressed on the surface of Gram positive bacteria. The role involves day-to-day scientific and laboratory management of projects in Prof Jennifer Potts’ laboratory; you will also be expected to take the lead on a specific research project and contribute and/or lead on the production of research outputs and research outcomes.

You will undertake management of the laboratory which will include supervising others and providing expert advice and guidance as well as developing and supporting less experienced colleagues. You will lead on the writing of papers and, where appropriate, work in collaboration internally and externally to develop methodologies, promote research areas and obtain funding.

You should have a PhD in an appropriate area (biochemistry or molecular biology). You will have substantial experience gained at postdoctoral level of molecular biology, recombinant protein expression and purification, structural biology (including X-ray crystallography) and biophysical characterisation of proteins using a variety of techniques. You will also have previous experience of successful collaborative projects, excellent time management and communication skills both written and oral, experience of supervision of PhD students on a day-today basis and evidence of high quality research publications are essential.

This post is available full time on a fixed term contract for 4 years.
