Role Description

The Department of Social Policy & Social Work at the University of York wishes to recruit an outstanding candidate to a Lectureship in Social Work. You will bring academic and practice expertise in child and family social work that will complement our existing strengths in the Department.

The Department of Social Policy & Social Work at York was created in 1966 and has established itself as one the leading departments in the field. In the 2014 REF, it was placed in joint first for impact and 3rd overall in the UK, with 54% of its work rated as ‘world leading’.

You will be responsible for the design, development and management of innovative teaching materials and modules, with a primary focus on child and family social work. You will undertake academic supervision of students and act as a research supervisor within your own specialist subject area. You will set and mark practical sessions, supervisions, fieldwork and examinations and provide constructive feedback to students. You will plan, deliver and critique a range of teaching and assessment activities, and identify areas where current teaching provision is in need of revision and propose and implement improvements. You will develop and promote the research activities of the department and manage and guide the work of staff and research students in your own specialist area. You will have experience of leading or contributing to research funding bids, and will be comfortable taking lead responsibility for research tasks as well as working with research partners. As well as publishing in peer-reviewed journals, you will have experience in disseminating research findings to different stakeholder groups at an international level. You will contribute to the administration and management of the department.

With a PhD in social work or an associated subject or equivalent experience, a professional Social Work qualification, and an appropriate academic professional and teaching qualification (or willingness to complete one), you will have experience of taking responsibility for teaching and learning at undergraduate and, ideally, postgraduate level. You will be a team player who works collaboratively, flexibly and reliably, and will work alongside an experienced and supportive team of colleagues. You will have a commitment to the department/university outside of your chosen field and a willingness to update your knowledge and skills.

The post is available from April 2018

Interviews will take place on the 22 March 2018
