Role Description

We are looking for an experienced and professional administrator to lead and manage our established Research Student Administration team (RSA) based within Student and Academic Services at the University of York.

This enthusiastic and friendly team has responsibility for the administrative processes relating to research students. As Head of Research Student Administration you will have line management responsibility for the four members of the team and will oversee the work activities and responsibilities, ensuring that we continue to deliver to key strategic goals, ensuring that agreed strategy, policy and business plans are implemented. This is a challenging role, and you will need to be comfortable managing longer-term project work alongside day to day operational responsibilities and deadlines in a busy working environment.

In this pivotal role you will take responsibility for the administrative processes for research students, and will need to demonstrate substantial specialist knowledge and understanding of the research student journey and of key national developments, trends, and policies relevant to this area of activity. Your initiative, enthusiasm, and methodical and cooperative approach to leading a team with many external stakeholders will be matched by your understanding of the policies and procedures relating to research students, and experience of working within a University’s regulatory framework.

You are able to build successful and productive relationships across the University and with external bodies and professional networks to promote the work of the team, and to contribute to ongoing policy and business process review and development. You will also be able to demonstrate your experience of developing and managing services, and of motivating, organising and coordinating the work of a team of people. Experience of working in the administration of research students’ progress, of managing a budget, and of working with complex databases would be an advantage.

The University of York is committed to promoting equality and diversity
